Key Concepts

Learn how Spaces is structured and the essential building blocks of communication—from organizations to channels.

Spaces is built around a simple but powerful structure that keeps communication focused, secure, and easy to navigate. Here are the key concepts to understand:

Organization

The highest level of structure in Spaces. Each organization has its own members, security settings, and identity. Users can belong to multiple organizations.

Spaces

Think of these as rooms for departments, teams, or external collaborators. Each Space has its own members, roles, and channels—making it easy to separate clinical teams from operations, or internal staff from external partners.

Channels

Channels live within a Space and help group conversations by topic, workflow, or function. Some might be dedicated to daily standups, others to referrals or documentation reviews.

Threads & Replies

Stay focused with structured conversations. Use replies for quick responses and threads for more in-depth discussions—without cluttering the main channel.

Direct Messages (DMs)

Reach out 1:1 or in small groups for quick, private conversations. DMs live outside of channels and are perfect for follow-ups and side conversations.

Connected Spaces

Collaborate with external organizations like pharmacies, labs, or consulting groups. Connected Spaces let you share channels and messages while keeping permissions tightly controlled.

Files & Mentions

Share PDFs, labs, images, and more. Tag teammates with @mentions to loop them in quickly. Everything stays organized, secure, and easy to find.
